28 years ago, we thought we planted Podocarpus Macrophyllus ‘Maki’. I should have checked all trees and plants delivered before planting. I was working then and did not pay much attention to the plants and my husband simply planted as planned. Little did we know, it is Podocarpus ‘gracilor’. Now, here it is, this tree must come down. It has gone way over the roof. My husband who just retired a few months ago decided to tackle the job. After all, he has all the time in the world and all the tools he needed. He also decided to do this big job as a surprise while I was away on a trip with girl friends back in March. OMG! I don’t know how he did it all by himself without getting hurt. With the exception of the front Agave that was spared, All the existing plantings were removed. Two things you don’t do if you are to cut your own tree. Don’t work alone. I am just so thankful that he did not hurt himself getting up above the roof and doing it all alone. Second, protect those plants before you start cutting. Better yet, hire a professional to do the job.
Here it is today with a newly look next to my front entry.
