For our California Gardens, Fall and Winter need not be bare and dreary. Choosing the right plants that will change leaf color, stem color, bloom or fruit in the winter, will provide interest in the garden. Leucadendron ‘Safari Sunset’ . This is one of my favorites in the garden. It has green leaves changing to more reddish in the winter. The very deep red-colored bracts start forming on long stems beginning in late summer and show their full color during the winter and into spring. Great for cut flower arrangements.
Take a closer look at the bracts. What do you think of this pine cone look? This So. African plant can handle frost , dry or wet winter and clay soil.
